How Much Can You Expect from a Cheap Data Recovery Quote?

You may have wondered at the wide range of prices quoted for recovering data, hard drive. These can extend from £50 up to thousands or more (the upper range usually applying to larger Raid arrays). As with all other things in life the price indicates broadly what you can expect from the data retrieval company in question.

If you are very lucky £50 will just about pay for a quick scan of the hard drive are you sending with recovery software and the dumping of any recovered data onto a DVD. This ignores the possibility that the drive has a physical failure, that the scanning of the drive will ultimately cause it to stop responding altogether and of course in no way guarantees that the recovered files dumped onto the DVD are intact. However anyone charging £50 has virtually no room to manoeuvre when making a profit.

If your data is in any way important to you, then you need a company that will be able to cope with any physical problems, will clone the drive once those physical problems are overcome and will verify the data recovered from the subsequent scanning procedure. This constitutes at a minimum four or five hours of an engineer’s time, when you factor in additional costs such as advertising and postage then you can see perhaps why those companies operating at the cheaper end of the market will be able to do very little with your hard drive.
