Does Lack of Sun Cause Low Vitamin D Levels in the Body?

The sun is one of the best sources of vitamin d. When the skin absorbs sunlight, it converts it to what we know as vitamin D. This type of vitamin D is called vitamin D2 or calciferol. One of the causes of low vitamin d is lack of sunlight.

Some of us have jobs that give us very little contact with sunlight. Some of us live in areas where the amount of sunlight we receive is very low. For example, people living in temperate regions in the world, hardly get any sunlight. And even if they do receive sunlight, it is not in the wavelength required for vitamin d conversion in the skin.

Which is why if you live in areas where you do not receive a lot of sunlight, you will need to consciously make sure you get the sun you need and also eat food rich in vitamin D.
